Bistro Bouchees

Category: Restaurant reviews

Name: Bistro Bouchees

Address: 515 Long Beach Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90803

Rating: 3/5

Price: ~8.00/per entree + alcohol

Pros: Cool place to hang out, beers on tap, bottled alcohol, wine, good burgers and sandwiches (panini), mini burgers available so you can try a bunch of different kinds each for half the price, relaxed and casual environment, ample parking

Cons: Burgers are good but not AWESOME (didn’t ask us how we wanted them cooked), not too big of a place so it’s small when packed!

General Comments:

Bistro Bouchees was a pleasant start to a warm fall Saturday.  We arrived at 11AM just as they opened to see rows and rows of plastic boxed lunches filled with sandwiches.  I assume that many come here and grab a picnic type “to go” box and head out else where which is really cool.  Great place for burgers and sandwiches in general.  Basically an upscale burger joint (and sandwiches) where all burgers are also offered as “Mini’s” at about half the cost so you can try them all out (not half the burger, about 1/3 of the burger :)).  They have beers on tap (about 3), wines, juices and the like.

Overall environment is casual/trendy and up beat.  The staff is very proactive and yearns to educate you on the menu.  Except that they didn’t ask us HOW we wanted our burgers cooked (medium, medium rare etc).  The place is a little small but I guess that would only matter if you were outside when it was super packed!

The have a small LCD/Plasma so if you will are going to die without sports over the weekend, there’s hope at the restaurant.

All in all a cool place to dine with friends, family or just 2 peas in a pod grabbing a quick burger or sandwich.

We really enjoyed dining at 26 beach. The decor is vintage european and feels very cozy and warm. Half the restaurant is a semi-covered patio with heat lamps. It’s great to sit in this area as it feels like it’s outdoors but without all the bad things that outdoors brings (cold, bugs etc.).

The menu is quite diverse. They have everything you can possibly want to order from burgers to pasta to surf and turf. Servings are large portioned and everything on the menu is all pretty good. Here are some of our favorites:

Roasted chicken
Garlic shrimp pasta
Ceviche (red snapper)
Fresh fish of the day (cooked moist)
Lasagna

The bread that they serve at the table is really good and we had the Pinot Grigio Estan which was very pleasant, slightly fruity and lite.

The service was good as the servers are friendly and easy going; food was well paced and the overall environment of the restaturant was on the more relaxed end.

I would recommend this restaurant for small family dinners, dinners with friends and even romantic evening with a significant other. The restaurant’s food, environment, price and pace allows it to cater to a variety of events.

Great little restaurant hidden away and we have been there quite a few times this year!

Boulder Basin - Campground

Category: Other

We’ve gotten pretty into being closer to the naked outdoors lately and decided to start with this one campground that’s about 2.5 hours from Marina Del Rey.

In a nutshell, the boulder basin campground was clean, well kept and offered extraordinary views and environment that blew all of us away. Great quiet retreat that offers lots of space for each campsite.

Few of the great highlights:

-Temperate summer weather because of its elevation (~7200ft above sea level). During our visit the daytime temperatures werearound 87F and nights are about 67F.

-Beautiful views of tall majestic trees and gigatic breathtaking boulders. Makes you feel like you’re in Colorado somewhere and NOT Los Angeles! Lot’s of hiking trails around the campground and fire rings/picnic tables are provided for each site.

-Well kept grounds and extremely clean bathrooms with little or no smell. Bathrooms are outhouses but extremely new and clean.

-Seamingly low traffic campground so you have privacy and an extremely calm environement.

-Campground sites are pretty well spreadout but you can still hear your neighbors.

-~10.00/night per site, sites accomodate 1-8 people. Pull up driveway with room usually for 2 large SUVs. The 2nd car is 5.00 extra. No RV hookups.

-This campground does have running water but it is subject to regulation depending on droughy conditions.

- Click Here for our pictures from the trip, we had a blast and were blown away by the campground!
